York Suburban Lacrosse Club :: Online Handbook Chapter 5: Equipment Needs
The following equipment checklist was provided by the coaching staff and outlines all necessary equipment for playing lacrosse. Club-supplied equipment is available for those participants with financial hardships and for a limited number of first-year U9/U11 players. Please contact the club general manager to inquire about using club-supplied equipment. Uniform The York Suburban Lacrosse Club uniform consists of an orange and white jersey and black lacrosse shorts with a white and orange braid. This uniform is supplied by the club. The primary team color is orange and the secondary team color is black. Players who choose to wear a t-shirt under their uniforms, the t-shirt must be black. No jewelry is permitted - with the exception of required religious jewelry and medical alert bracelets. Lacrosse Stick A lacrosse stick is required. Offensive players must have a stick measuring between 40 and 48 inches from top to bottom - with 40 inches being the minimum and preferable. Defensive players must have a stick measuring 52 to 72 inches from top to bottom - with 72 inches being the maximum and preferable. Goalies must have a goalie stick, measuring between 40 and 72 inches in length. Coach recommended brands include STX, Brine, Gait and Warrior. Buying tips: For beginning players, purchase a stick with as wide a head as you can find. Narrower piched heads are harder to catch and throw with and require more experience. Less expensive sticks are great - however be aware that at the higher levels, the less expensive aluminum shafts that come with the cheaper sticks may not last the season. Helmet A lacrosse helmet bearing a 'MEETS NOCSAE STANDARD' stamp is required. For those players who require a new helmet, it is recommend that you order a helmet with the following color scheme: black helmet, chin and faceguard with orange visor. Coaches recommend either adjustable Cascaded CPX or PLH style helmets as they expand and can be used from year to year. Pads & Gloves Shoulder pads, arm pads and gloves are required. Lacrosse-specific pads are optimal, however ice hockey pads and gloves are similar enough that they are interchangable. Coach recommended brands include STX, Brine, Gait and Warrior. Cleats & Athletic Supporter As lacrosse is played for the most part on a grass field, it is required of all players to wear cleats. Coaches recommend high-top style football cleats for lacrosse to provide better protection for the feet and ankles. An athetic supporter is required as well. This supporter must have a 'cup', which must be worn at all times (lacrosse is a contact sport). |
